STATEMENT

The collision of my dreams (my escape) and my reality (my mundane) serves as the foundation of my artistic practice. My work becomes a physical manifestation of my daydreams and the alternate dreamlike dimensions I manifest inside my head. In these dimensions I conquer my inner demons, face my foes, and overcome my insecurities to leave open my most vulnerable self.

I explore delicate gore—a macabre aesthetic of the idealization of horrendous injury or plight—throughout my work, which also focuses on my own body and the idea of the divine feminine. In my work, I use a multitude of medias including printmaking, painting, and sculpture to explore the morally grey area between black and white: life and death, good and evil, hero and villain; the grey that, though never fully acknowledged, is part of the inescapability of human existence.

Drawing inspiration from my personal history, I translate the events of everyday life into fantastical occurrences that I envision within my mind. I draw from the rich tapestry of art history, finding influence in movements like the Pre-Raphaelites and Art Nouveau, which influence the organic forms and shapes that are integral to my work. The historical significance of illustration, in fairy tales and the works of artists like Henry Justice Ford and Aubrey Beardsley, serves as another inspiration. By illustrating scenes from the vivid landscapes of my imagination, derived from the mundanity of everyday life, I craft my own unique fairy tale narrative.
